What is Cognitive Hypnotherapy?

Cognitive Hypnotherapy combines a variety of different evidence-based approaches - including Neuro-Linguistic Programming, CBT, Positive Psychology, Gestalt and Traditional Hypnotherapy. It is unique to each client, and honours individuality. One size never fits all and no one is ever considered ‘textbook’. Treatment plans are completely bespoke, flexible, and tailored to the individual needs.

I have found, of all of the approaches used in Cognitive Hypnotherapy, Neuro-linguistic programming (or NLP) is the one I get asked to explain the most. Simply put, Neuro relates to what’s going on in our minds, Linguistic relates the language that we use, and Programming relates to repeated patterns of behaviour. The use of NLP can change someone’s thoughts and behaviours and, when used in collaboration with the other practices, can significantly increase the chance of a reaching their desired outcome.

Starting a therapy journey can be daunting but I want to assure you - you will not have to do this alone. I will be supporting you fully throughout the sessions as well as in between them. Cognitive Hypnotherapy can be transformative and has a very high success rate. If you think it’s for you, get in touch and we can chat about what changes are important to you and how I may be able to help.

Quest Cognitive Hypnotherapy

(QCH) launched a unique research project in 2011. Using a team of QCH therapists, clients with anxiety and depression were assessed using the same outcome measures currently used to assess the effectiveness of talking therapies within the NHS. The pilot study was published in the Mental Health Review Journal in 2015.

Using 118 cases measuring the effectiveness of Cognitive Hypnotherapy for the treatment of depression and anxiety, it was recorded that 71% considered themselves recovered after an average of 4 sessions. This compared to an average of 42% for other approaches using the same measures (like CBT). To our knowledge, this is the only hypnotherapy approach to have been validated in this way.
